Commissioned by Dakota Smith, Vital Moments is a rigorous 3-minute solo for advanced marimbists. The piece is a commentary on the culture we’ve built that prioritizes an unbalanced relationship between working and living our lives. In a world where money is power and time is money, it’s no wonder we’re all exhausting ourselves in an effort to achieve even the most basic necessities. Vital Moments takes you through a flurry of music representing various moments of physical and mental exhaustion. While over sooner than you know it, both the listener and the performer will feel as though they’ve just finished running a marathon.
